___________________________________________________________________________________________________________
We are offering this unique psychedelic and colorful JERRY GARCIA Poster. Produced and licensed by Winterland Productions in 1978, this RARE poster is NOT a fake, or a reproduction. A reproduction of this poster in a larger size was produced in 1993 by a poster company, but it is not the original size being auctioned here which was planned to be distributed at the last Winterland concert discussed below. The Winterland Productions logo is clearly marked in the bottom right hand corner as can be seen in the photo above. This Poster is in excellent condition with NO creases, folds, tears, or watermarks. The Poster will be shipped in a tube to prevent any creasing or folding.
The Poster is approximately 16" x 20" and shows Jerry as he looked in his early years playing his Sunburst Fender Stratocaster. You will not find these posters anywhere but here, as they were rescued from a warehouse in California that was destroyed almost 20 years ago. It is our understanding that these Posters were to be distributed at the December 31, 1978, closing performance of the Winterland Arena, but it was decided at the last minute not to give them out since the Poster featured only Jerry and not the whole Grateful Dead Band (see discussion below).
This would make a unique Christmas Gift for that hard rock fan.

Winterland Arena
The Winterland Arena (San Francisco, CA) began life around 1919 as a huge skating rink with seats ringing the venue at ice and balcony levels. Looking like a Roman coliseum with a capacity of about 5,400, Winterland's acts played literally at center stage, and patrons could sit or dance as the spirit moved them. In the early days of rock concerts, concert promoter, Bill Graham, and his staff would haul the equipment from the original Fillmore Theatre after the Thursday night show and set up at Winterland for the Friday and Saturday concerts. Winterland's capacity and layout made playing to larger crowds both possible and appealing to rock promoters, and Graham was among the first to recognize the potential of larger venues.
Bill Graham's famous 'Breakfast Served at Dawn' concerts were a time-honored New Year's Eve tradition and the Grateful Dead, Blues Brothers, and New Riders of the Purple Sage (NRPS) performed at the last performance at Winterland on December 31, 1978. On the stroke of midnight, balloons cascaded from the ceiling to the strains of Sugar Magnolia, and the Dead, partiers nonpareil, made it abundantly clear why live Dead was superior to studio Dead. The arena, home to so much of the music, mayhem and youth of the 60's and 70's, yielded to progress and became the site of a new condominium.
